As well as providing regional support for the UK, Norway and West Africa, this office manages UTEC NCS, UTEC Geospatial and UTEC Geoscience client services for the North Sea. This modern facility was developed to support UTEC’s vision for the region which includes growth of our core capability in construction support alongside an expanded service line offering including AUV, geophysical and geotechnical services.

UTEC Geoscience Services

UTEC’s Geoscience division's head office is located in Newcastle and is the geotechnical department within the UTEC group providing geotechnical engineering and metocean services to support the offshore oil and gas, renewable energy, telecom and mineral industries.

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will undertake duties as instructed by the Principal Geotechnical Engineer, including the completion and delivery of geotechnical studies, designs and reports. Duties also include offshore assignment in support of the geotechnical business line.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Principal Geotechnical Engineer and lead in the preparation and delivery of geotechnical studies, designs and reports.
  • Conduct and supervise data assessments and geotechnical analyses.
  • Client liaison and lead in the preparation of geotechnical study reports.
  • Maintain time and project records and manage project costs.
  • Assist in the technical and commercial management and planning of the business.

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • First Degree in Civil Engineering or Geology or closely related subject supported by further academic study or practical experience in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology.
  • Previous experience working in a similar geotechnical engineering environment.
  • Practical knowledge of ground investigation, geotechnical engineering and geological processes.
  • Active participation/membership of a professional organization such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Geological Society, Society for Underwater Technology.

Senior Geotechnical Survey Engineer

The Senior Geotechnical Survey Engineer will undertake duties as instructed by the Principal Geotechnical Engineer; there are two key functions, firstly the development and management of seabed technologies, designs and reports. Secondly, preparation and submission of commercial and technical proposals to customers in support of the corporate commercial team. Duties also include project management in support of the geotechnical business line.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

Technology Management

  • Lead in the management of UTEC Geomarine survey equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is fit for purpose, maintained and ready for deployment to projects.
  • Ensure method statements and project documentation are up to date and compliant with the management system.
  • Train staff on safe and efficient set up and use of equipment.
  • Lead research and development in technical developments.
  • Project Management of geotechnical survey projects.
  • Maintain time and project records and manage project costs.
  • Assist in the technical and commercial management and planning of the business.

Tendering Support

  • Support and assist the Business Unit Director, Commercial Manager (in Aberdeen), and Business Development teams, as required in the preparation and submission of bids.
  • Develop and maintain approved methodology statements for conduct of geotechnical and other supporting activities.
  • Develop and maintain approved commercial templates for pricing of geotechnical and other supporting activities.
  • Communicate and plan with internal department staff, 3rd party suppliers, and customers during preparation of proposals.
  • Prepare technical proposals using approved methodology statements.
  • Prepare the commercial sections of proposals using approved commercial pricing structures and in collaboration with Business Development teams.
  • Request and assemble 3rd party supplier quotes and maintain a database of 3rd party costs to ensure competitiveness.

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • First Degree in Civil Engineering or Geology or closely related subject supported by further academic study or practical experience in geotechnical survey and equipment development.
  • Similar experience working in a geotechnical survey environment.
  • Practical knowledge of ground investigation, geotechnical engineering and geological processes.
  • Active participation/membership of a professional organisation such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Geological Society, Society for Underwater Technology.
